Part Two: The Quest for a New World Order

   I first wrote about the New World Order in my 1976 book, Kissinger: Man of Destiny. I have been a New World Order and Henry Kissinger watcher ever since.
   When the former Secretary of State and leading architect of the New World Order appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” in early January 2009, host Erin Burnett asked him what international conflict would define the Barack Obama administration’s foreign policy.
   “The president-elect is coming into office at a moment when there is upheaval in many parts of the world simultaneously,” Kissinger responded. “You have India, Pakistan; you have the jihadist movement. So he can’t really say there is one problem, that it’s the most important one. But he can give new impetus to American foreign policy partly because the reception of him is so extraordinary around the world. His task will be to develop an overall strategy for America in this period when, really, a new world order can be created. It’s a great opportunity, it isn’t just a crisis.”
   Not surprising, when Obama addressed the graduating class of 2010 at West Point on Saturday, May 22, 2010, he spoke of moving toward such a New World Order: “The international order we seek is one that can resolve the challenges of our times... combating a changing climate and sustaining global growth; helping countries feed themselves and care for their sick; preventing conflict and healing its wounds.”
   Barack Obama is but the latest American President to promote the New World Order.
   Years before, at the outset of the Gulf War in 1990, then President George H. W. Bush announced via global television: “Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective—a New World Order—can emerge; a new era, freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace. An era in which the nations of the world, east and west, north and south, can prosper in harmony.... A hundred generations have searched for this elusive path to peace, while a thousand wars raged across the span of human endeavor. Today that new world is struggling to be born. A world quite different from the one we’ve known. A world in which the rule of law supplants the rule of the jungle.... Nothing will stand in the way of the New World Order.”
   Bush’s vision for a New World Order quickly spawned many hastily written and rushed to press books on the subject by Christian as well as secular writers, including Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network and a former Presidential candidate.
   President H. W. Bush was succeeded by yet another New Worlder President: Bill Clinton.
   Two weeks before Clinton was sworn in as President he told the United Nations Association: “We must do more than talk about the New World Order.” After that, he publicly mentioned the New World Order only a few times, for there was mounting opposition to the globalist movement. The name, “New World Order,” almost overnight fell into disuse among politicians and the news media. But the New World Order had lost no momentum.
Henry Kissinger said, in 1994, “It [The New World Order] cannot happen without U.S. participation, as we are the most significant single component. Yes, there will be a New World Order, and it will force the United States to change its perceptions.” (World Affairs Council Press Conference, Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, April 19, 1994.)
   When President George W. Bush was inaugurated for a second term, on January 20, 2005, his speech was essentially a mission statement for the New World Order, which he referred to as a “new order of the ages.” (“New order of the ages” is translated from novus ordo seclorum, the Latin slogan that appears beneath the New World Order pyramid on the Great Seal of the United States.)

The New World Order’s anti-Christian agenda
   Today, the New World Order, by whatever name, is the driving force and objective of America-led globalism. And regardless of the good that its proponents envision it to be, it is no more than the inevitable evolution of Satan’s ill-fated, old world order that someday will be ruled by the Antichrist and fulfill its prophecy as Babylon the Great. Even now the “spirit of antichrist” and “many antichrists” are active in the world (1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 7).
   Following are but a few statements by New Worlders that reveal the movement’s chilling ideology.
   Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to the President, is a Kissinger disciple and one of the architects of the New World Order. He and David Rockefeller are co-founders of the Trilateral Commission, which, along with the Council on Foreign Relations, are two of many front organizations for The Establishment’s New World Order. Brzezinski considers religion and nationalism to be enemies of the New World Order. In his 1969 book, Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era, Brzezinski wrote: “[The] gradual shaping of a community of the developed nations would be a realistic expression of our emerging global consciousness; concentration on disseminating scientific and technological information would reflect a more functional approach to man’s problems; both the outlook that would gradually replace the institutionalized religious, ideological, and intensely national perspectives that have dominated modern history.”
   Brock Chisolm, when director of the United Nations World Health Organization, used more direct and forceful language to convey the same New World Order strategy: “To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men their individualism, loyalty to family traditions, national patriotism, and religious dogmas.” (Cited by Tal Brooke in an article on the New World Order in the Summer 1991 edition of SCP Journal.)
   Based upon statements by those and other New World Order proponents, it is clear that the major obstacles to the New World Order are biblical Christians, Orthodox Jews, and fundamentalist Muslims. The Establishment is therefore doing all it can to instill among them a New World Order view. And today we are seeing the emergence of apostate New World Christians, New World Jews, and New World Muslims.

The New World Order and Civil Religion
Some Bible prophecy commentators see two Babylons in the end-time: a political Babylon and an apostate or false church. And the two will work hand-in-hand to advance the vision for a new Babylon—a New World Order.
But it is not altogether future. Historically, it was initiated with the founding of the United States of America.
   Alexis de Tacqueville revealed his discovery of this in his 1835 analytical book, Democracy in America: “The greatest part of British America was peopled by men who, after having shaken off the authority of the Pope, acknowledged no other religious supremacy: they brought with them into the New World a form of Christianity which I cannot better describe than by styling it a democratic and republican religion” (Vol. 1, p. 311).
   Robert N. Bellah, in the title and text of his 1967 essay, gave a name to it: “Civil Religion in America.”
   It’s what brought diverse religious and world views together to draft a Declaration of Independence and a U.S. Constitution: Protestantism, Catholicism, Theism, Deism, and Unitarianism; Freemasonry, and American Exceptionalism in its various forms, including Dominionism (“Come help build God’s Kingdom on Earth”), and the concepts of America the New Promised Land (New Israel) and America the “Shining City on a Hill” (New Jerusalem).
Some historians write that, within that “melting pot,” concept of American Exceptionalism were widely seen as justification that persuaded a majority of early American Christians to support the American Revolution and Manifest Destiny, under which the new “Promised Land” was confiscated from Native Americans and Mexicans.
   Of course, those lofty notions had no biblical support. There is nothing in the Bible to indicate the land God promised to the children of Israel included what is now the United States of America. Thus, there was no biblical justification for seizing the lands of Native Americans and Mexicans. Furthermore, the “shining city on a hill,” referred to by Jesus, had nothing to do with Jerusalem or some “new” Jerusalem, but rather to those who listened to Him.
   There is no biblical support for the perception that the United States of America is exceptional—not considered by God to be part of the world over which Satan is the temporary “god.”
   Today the American Civil Religion is much bigger and broader in scope, and draws from many religions and quasi-religious institutions and movements, among them Freemasonry, Mormonism, New Age, Eastern Religions, Islam, and some Catholic and Protestant churches that embrace a “social gospel” based on Liberation Theology and politically-partnered “social justice.”
   A recent example of the Civil Religion “marriage” between Religion and government occurred when President George W. Bush created what he called the “Faith-Based Initiative.”
   Faith-based participants receive some financial support by the government in order to carry out humanitarian activities; however, they must agree that, in doing so, they will not engage in activities designed to advance their religious beliefs. And now President Obama continues that initiative to gain support for his political agenda.
   As of this writing, two examples of that can be cited: the Environmental Protection Agency is enlisting those of the Civil Religion to help in the crusade for a green planet, and some in the Obama administration are appealing to its participants to disregard national borders and certain Federal and states’ laws, and to legalize illegal immigrants in the United States by authority of Natural Law social justice and human rights that supersedes any state or national law.
   Such rights are considered by some to be universal rights of world citizens that should be secured or protected by international governance. And that could lead to a one world government, an eventuality which is pursued by some and opposed by others. Still others—some Bible-believing Christians—believe such a one-world government would fulfill Bible prophecies of an emerging global Babylon the Great that will be ruled by the Antichrist.
   Henry Kissinger wrote in the September 13, 2006 issue of The Washington Post, “We now know that we face the imperative of building a new world order or potential global catastrophe. It cannot be done alone by either side of the Atlantic. Is that realization sufficient to regenerate a common purpose?”
   According to the Bible, a similar “common purpose” envisioned by the Antichrist and his “tens kings” will have a quite different outcome: “For God has put it in their [Antichrist and “ten kings”] hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast [Antichrist], until the words of God should be fulfilled” (Revelation 17:17). And those “words of God” are revealed in the remaining chapters of the book of Revelation.
   Let us not forget that others are fervently working toward a new world order of their own design—most prominently, radical Islamist nations, Russia, and China. And the day is coming when the “kings” to the south and north and east of Jerusalem will oppose the Antichrist and his drive for world supremacy in what the Bible describes as preparation for the battle of Armageddon. But the battle will not take place because Jesus Christ will return beforehand to bring judgement on the nations of the world.

The “mystery” of Babylon
The United States and its “global” movement are the precursors of two entities prophesied in the Bible: The end-time nation of Babylon and the world system it creates.
    Babylon the Great” is a “mystery” in that it has long existed in secrecy, with little detection. Some commentators on Bible prophecy believe Babylon will rise through a “revived Roman Empire”—the European Union. Others look for a revival of ancient Babylon in Iraq, and this theory is especially fueled by the American-led coalition that invaded the country in 1990 and overthrew its dictatorship in 2003. And still others, myself included, look for Babylon the Great to emerge through today’s globalist movement, which is led by the United States. Regardless of theories and speculation, the true identity of Mystery Babylon will become more apparent through future history’s corroboration with Bible prophecy.
    The Bible offers many clues to the identity of Mystery Babylon. Revelation 17 tells us that it will at first be a relatively young nation that will fulfill prophecies of a seventh imperialistic nation that will become an eighth global empire, truly a world order (Revelation 17:11). It will be more powerful and more evil than all the empires of history. In its early years most of its people will worship God; but in the end, most will turn away from Him to worship the Antichrist. Satan will vest all his power in the Antichrist to “make war with the saints, and to overcome them. And the Devil will give authority to the Antichrist to rule over every tribe and people and tongue and nation” (Revelation 13:7. See also Revelation 17-19 and Jeremiah 50, 51).

What will happen to America?
The Bible tells us that God will use the Antichrist and his supportive “ten kings” of global banking and commerce (Revelation 17:12) to help carry out His purpose: “For God has put it in their [the ten kings] hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom [global empire] to the beast [Antichrist], until the words of God should be fulfilled” (Revelation 17:17). The Antichrist and ten kings, as despotic leaders of the eighth empire (global Babylon) “will hate the harlot [seventh empire, which is national Babylon] and will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire” (Revelation 17:16). This prophecy of the fall of national Babylon is expanded in Revelation 18. In today’s world, the New World Order fits the description of the eighth empire, or global Babylon, and the United States of America fits the description of the seventh empire, or national Babylon.
    Consider again this statement by Henry Kissinger: “It [The New World Order] cannot happen without U.S. participation, as we are the most significant single component. Yes, there will be a New World Order, and it will force the United States to change its perceptions.”
    Figure 3 is an organizational chart of Satan’s world order during the brief reign of the Antichrist. With help from the False Prophet (Revelation 13:11-17) and Ten Kings (Revelation 17:12-17), the Antichrist will rule Mystery Babylon with an iron fist. The Ten Kings (literally “foundations of power”) can be understood by context to be a small group of men of great power and influence in their respective spheres of endeavor, which constitute the four pillars of Satan’s world order:

  1. the intellectual and moral (Revelation 17:6—see also Revelation 6:9, 12:17, 13:7, 16:5, 6);

  2. the economical and commercial (Revelation 17:4—see also Revelation 18:12-14);

  3. the political (Revelation 17:2, 12-18);

  4. the religious (Revelation 12, 17:4, 5).

Figure 3: Organizational chart of the Antichrist-ruled world in the end-time.

   The Antichrist will rule the world with Satan’s power and authority, assisted by the false prophet and “ten kings” who will control global communications, economics, governments, and false religions. Believers will not be part of the Antichrist’s world order, but because they will be on the earth, they will be “in” the world. The world will hate believers and persecute them.
    Those “four pillars of civilization” (cited by former Senator Barry Goldwater) are prophesied to come under control of the Antichrist in the last days (Figure 4. See Revelation 17 and 18).
    All the natural people of the world will worship the Antichrist as their god (2 Thessalonians 2:3-12; Revelation 13:3-8). Many will participate in the persecution of believers, but God will preserve a remnant, as He always has done in ages past. When Christ returns, His mission will include the final destruction of Babylon (Revelation 19), and judgment against the Antichrist and his followers (Revelation 19:20, 21).

Figure 4: Satan’s world order is based on a foundation of lies, deceptions, and fantasies.

    The spirit of Antichrist (1 John 4:3) and the spirit of the world (1 Corinthians 2:12), which could also be called the spirit of Babylon, can be found in the darkened hearts of unsaved people in virtually every part of the world.
