Glenn Beck's A Christmas Sweater
...The Rest of the Story

I recently read Glenn Beck’s novel, The Christmas Sweater, hoping it would be a strong, Christian testimony, but not expecting it to be. The book was not what I had hoped for. Nor was it what Glenn had originally written. One of his co-authors, Jason Wright, according to reports, has said the book’s publisher (Threshold Editions) insisted the ending of the original manuscript had to be changed—to make it less religious and more secular. And so it was.

Glenn penned words in his book such as “atonement and redemption, and wrote of “a second chance,” “Without His death, the birth is meaningless,” and “I finally know who I am.” But Glenn neither adequately defined those terms and statements nor explained their place in the dynamics of his transformation. For example, he writes—and says on his TV program on Fox—that he knows who he is. But, he never tells us who he is.

Because of my Christian perspective, I was able to place Glenn’s novel, as well as his true life experiences, in the context of my Christian experience and understanding of biblical doctrine. But, Glenn, who is a Mormon, might interpret the above words and statements in accordance with Mormon doctrine, which would differ from my understanding of the intent and meaning found in the Bible. Furthermore, for those readers without a biblical perspective, “the rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey might say, needs to be told, heard and understood—and applied to one’s life.

Perhaps, someday, Glenn will write a sequel to The Christmas Sweater that does indeed tell “the rest of the story” (from his Mormon perspective, of course). If so, I’ll be one of the first to buy it! And comment on it.

Meanwhile, let me ask you: Do you really know who you are? Do you understand the meanings of words like atonement and redemption? Have you tried to turn your life around for the better, only to fail so many times that you’ve given up? Do you hunger for a change of life?

Then, I strongly encourage you to take the first step by clicking here.
